But the question that brought you here — "does GABA actually work?" — has a more complicated answer than a simple yes or no.

What is GABA and how does it act in the brain?

GABA is a small molecule your body makes from glutamate, the main excitatory neurotransmitter. While glutamate speeds up signals between neurons, GABA slows them down.
